First High Ropes Course Installed By Crew Of Women Builders

We are excited to complete the installation of the new high ropes course at Columbia Outdoor School near Cranbrook, BC.  A project that was delayed a year due to the pandemic.

This course was built by Kathy Haras and Jodie Fluit - an all woman installation crew.  This is a first for us and after checking with many our colleagues likely a first for the challenge course industry.  This will be the first full high ropes course project ever built by a crew of women.  One for the challenge course history books!

Back from the very beginning at Adventureworks women have been part of our installation team beginning with Cathy Clements and Mindee Naismith.  Over the years the crew has included Andrea Johnson, Mady Toth, Kristen Rapley, and of course the installers of this course Kathy Haras and Jodie Fluit.  While we have had all women crews build low courses, repair, replace and install new high elements, this is the first time a full multi-element high course has been built from start to finish by women.

While we celebrate this milestone we are also mindful of how long it has taken our industry to get here. There are many skilled and capable women in our industry. We need to continue to question why women are so underrepresented in many aspects of our profession and work to address those barriers. We will continue to do so at Adventureworks!

In the meantime, congratulations to Kathy & Jodie for this industry first!
